To be considered a new record in a class the time must be faster than that of any tougher category  — IE; to be a new MEN’S OPEN (or Masters) record the time must be better then the 7:38 of the Masters 60 .  Also for a men’s OC-1 Relay Time to be a record it must be faster than the IRON OC-1 time of 9:13.  Thus a Men’s record must be faster than the existing Mixed or Women’s record etc

There are many unfilled categories so pick one and get on the books as the FASTEST EVER

Length of the Lake 2019 – September 1, 2019

We hope you will be able to join us this year!   We will hopefully be co-hosting with Calgary and looking at encouraging crews to make their own category with the goal of setting a record in that category!

Paddling Length of the Lake

Length Of the Lake is a challenging ultra endurance paddling event: BE PREPARED. Individuals will be paddling between 16 and 54 km. You may experience extreme fatigue and blisters. Have good footwear, the beaches where crew changes take place are quite rocky. Crews will need as many changes of dry clothes as the number of legs they are paddling. You may be soaked to the waist after a crew change. There are bathroom and change rooms at all aid stations. Bliss Bakery located about a km away from the Peachland aid station has a great selection of soups and other yummies. Otherwise make sure you have the nourishment and hydration you will need with you. Ferrying crews and trailers from one aid station to the next is a logistical challenge. Have your plan worked out in detail in advance. Each crew should have a fully charged cell phone. Numbers of the aid stations and escort boats will be given at the pre race briefing. At least one member of each team MUST attend the meeting. Finally be prepared for a great day on the water in this unique event.

How Hard Can It Be?

Join us on Sunday, September 1, 2019 for this one-of-a-kind Ultra-Paddling race on scenic Okanagan Lake!

The race starts at Kin Beach in Vernon at 7:00 AM (6 AM for early starters) and ends 100 kilometres later on Okanagan Beach in Penticton. In between are four on-shore aid station/check points where paddlers and their support crews will find water, washrooms, and parking. The race may be long, but the list of rules is short. In a nutshell, crews must arrive at each check point before the designated cut-off times. Crew changes are optional, but may take place only at the check points.

Race registration includes an after-race dinner and some kind of swag. Race categories with three or more entries by the early registration deadline (midnight  August 23, 2019) are considered official and are eligible for prizes.  Unofficial, including “build-your-own” categories are welcome and are eligible for bragging rights and a place in the Length of the Lake Ultra-paddle history books.

We hope to see you at Length for a day of racing you’ll never forget!
